Angénieux Optimo Ultra Compact
The Optimo Ultra Compact brings the character and precision of Angénieux zooms into a smaller, lighter package designed for modern large-format cinema.
Available in two ranges [21–56mm and 37–102mm], the Optimo Ultra Compact covers everything from wide establishing shots through to tighter portrait and detail work. Both lenses maintain a constant T2.9 aperture throughout the zoom range, with no T-stop loss, making them practical choices when speed and consistency are important.
The rendering carries the refined Angénieux look found throughout the Optimo family, with careful attention paid to maintaining a consistent image when moving between primes and zooms. Rather than feeling like a compromise in character, the Ultra Compact is designed to sit naturally alongside a set of prime lenses, minimizing the tonal shift that can sometimes occur when changing between the two.
Both lenses cover Full Frame and VistaVision formats, making them well suited to today's large-format cinema cameras. Their compact design also makes them particularly useful for handheld, gimbal, Steadicam, drone, and other situations where a traditional large-format zoom can become cumbersome.
The optical system is also interchangeable. Replacing the standard FF/VV rear optical assembly with the U35 system optimizes the lenses for Super 35mm coverage and increases the maximum aperture to a fast T2.2. This makes the Optimo Ultra Compact an unusually versatile zoom platform, capable of adapting to different camera formats and production requirements without changing lenses.
