Client Work: Titanic Ocean Selected for Cannes Un Certain Regard
Director:Konstantina Kotzamani
Director of Photography:Raphaël Vandenbussche
Production: Happinet Phantom Studios, MAM FILM, Homemade
Honored to see a project using Capsule gear selected for “Un Certain Regard” at the Cannes Film Festival!
Congratulations to everyone involved — we’re grateful to have been a small part of it.
DP Raphaël kindly shared some beautiful thoughts about the lenses used on the project:
“For this film, we weren’t interested in simply imitating a film look out of nostalgia. We wanted to create an atmospheric visual language that felt slightly detached from digital look.”
“To evoke something oceanic and dreamlike, we chose the Ironglass Soviet lenses as our main set. Especially the 37mm and 58mm, which possess a kind of expressiveness that resists precision. Their fall-off dissolves space, while highlights bloom as if light were diffusing through water or memory.
They reminded me of Pre-Raphaelite paintings, where forms are present but never completely fixed. That felt especially right for expressing the emotional chemistry between the characters.“
“We also occasionally used the Lomo 20–120mm (T3.3) zoom, which blended naturally into the visual language of the film.“
Lomo | Macro Zoom | 20 - 120mm T3.3 (PL) (S35)
“And finally, it was a real joy to shoot in Japan with a Japanese camera I deeply love — the Sony Venice 2 in FF mode.”
The camera and lenses used on the film are available for rent at Capsule. We also offer free lens tests—reach out to check them out in person!
